Welcome to Sugar in Bloom Cupcakes!

My name is Melissa, and I’m the woman behind the kitchen counter of my home-based business in Ortonville, Michigan. My husband, Brannon, is my biggest supporter/helper, and together we have a handsome and adventurous little toddler named Grant, who enjoys taste testing cupcakes.

After Grant was born in 2020, I became a stay-at-home mom, and after a year of being up at all hours of the night browsing the internet, I stumbled upon buttercream floral cupcakes and became OBSESSED. I’ve always been artistic (just like my mom) and LOVE creating new things, but had never thought about baking/decorating beautiful cupcakes as a career! At this time, we were way deep in “survival” mode with our little dude- running on little to no sleep, under COVID restrictions and lockdowns, while raising a new family. As scary and exciting as it was, I felt it was time to try a new hobby; one that could be done while at home with our busy toddler. I ended up making a few bouquets, passing them out to friends and family, and got amazing feedback. Shortly after, my husband and I came up with the name Sugar in Bloom, bought the supplies I needed, and before we knew it, we had a business. Things have gotten so busy that I had to kick Brannon out of his office and turned it into a cake supply room. Now if only we had a bigger kitchen!

In 2021, Sugar in Bloom was created, and I’ve been blown away with the amount of love and support we’ve received from everyone. We have a huge support system of family and friends who love to taste test, and amazing customers who keep coming back for more!

Sugar in Bloom has brought so much excitement and joy into our lives, and I’m happy to be able to do what I love while managing both our business and family under the same roof. We are excited to see what the future brings.
